Returning again this year to our list of #FavouriteThings Holiday Gift Suggestions are the wines of Vanessa Vineyard in the Similkameen. Particularly unique and special these wines originate in the most challenging terroir. The wines from the Similkameen, and especially the wines of Vanessa, are crafted by winemaker Howard Soon and are for the most discriminating of wine lovers on your list.
2016 Syrah
Our 100% estate grown Syrah shows the power, texture, complexity and elegance of the Similkameen. The nose balances ripe plum, dried black cherry with subtle hints of jasmine and clove. The full, silky-textured palate is packed with blackberry, cassis and black pepper followed by a lingering dark chocolate finish. Only 31 barrels produced.
2016 Right Bank
Crafted in a classic “Right Bank” style of Bordeaux, our 100% estate-grown Right Bank is a Merlot-dominant wine with small percentages of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon blended in for complexity. The nose shows ripe cherry, black plum, espresso, chocolate, lavender and sage. The full, rich pallet shows plush round soft tannins, wonderful acidity and intense black cherry and plum. A hint of leather, cacao and baking spice can be sensed, finishing with the trademark lengthy Similkameen graphite minerality.
2014 Meritage
A rich Cabernet-based cuvée, our 2014 Meritage is a softer, yet more complex vintage that has been contoured and sculpted by our winemaker. Elegantly layered with deep berry flavours, this is a wine with excellent structure and concentrated flavour. The ripe, silky tannins are balanced by fresh cherry, dark berry, coffee and licorice flavours. The fruit and oak are particularly well integrated with a smooth
lingering finish.
