Kitchen Table Restaurants Announces Opening Team for New Restaurant Concept ‘Miantiao’ in Vancouver, BC

SENSE AND SENSIBILITIES: KITCHEN TABLE RESTAURANTS ANNOUNCES
OPENING TEAM FOR NEW RESTAURANT CONCEPT ‘MIANTIAO’ IN VANCOUVER, BC

Further Details Revealed for Unique New Restaurant Experience Coming
to Shangri-La Hotel Vancouver this Summer

Award-winning BC-based Kitchen Table Restaurants will welcome another member to its growing family when it officially opens the doors of Miantiao in the Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver this summer.

A realization of parallel worlds united by like-minded culinary philosophies and time-honoured traditions, Miantiao — derived from the Mandarin word for ‘noodle’ — will marry Italian and Chinese ingredients and techniques. The creative cross-cultural exploration will be led by Kitchen Table Culinary Director Alex Tung, who brings a thoughtful, technique-driven approach to cooking honed in some of the world’s most respected kitchens while working alongside renowned chefs such as Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Daniel Boulud and Christian Delouvrier. Raised in a Chinese household, Tung also travelled extensively throughout the Mediterranean in his former role as a brand ambassador for an artisanal Italian pasta and olive-oil producer.

Joining Tung at the helm will be Executive Chef Tret Jordan (Loden Hotel, Wentworth Hospitality) and Chef de Cuisine Justin Lee (Superflux, Crowbar). The Miantiao front-of-house team will be led by General Manager Hao-Yang Wang (Farmer’s Apprentice, Grapes & Soda, West), Bar Manager Gianluigi (Luigi) Bosco (Lombardi, Shangri-La Vancouver) and Wine Director David Steele (South by Southwest Wine Imports, Shangri-La Vancouver).

The Miantiao experience will further play on the marriage of Italian and Chinese cuisines in two dynamic dining spaces. The Frasca Room, inspired by the Friuli region of Italy, offers a mix of both communal and individual seating, while the Jia Room, (‘home’ in Mandarin) is a warm and inviting setting in the main dining area that also showcases a full lounge and cocktail bar. Miantiao will also offer three private dining spaces for special events with à-la-carte and fixed menus created especially for groups available upon request.

“From the design to our menus to our style of service, Miantiao embraces rituals shared by both Chinese and Italian cultures surrounding food, family and memories made and celebrated around the table,” says Chef Tung, Kitchen Table’s Culinary Director. “I’m personally excited to transport locals and visitors alike on a unique and stimulating journey for the senses that celebrates the many similarities and culinary traditions that have long been shared by both countries.”

Further details on Miantiao, including food and drink menus — and how guests can reserve — will be released in the coming weeks.
