2019 Pinot Gris

Aromas of honeysuckle, pear, and refreshing citrus. Flavours of lime, lemon, pear, and white nectarine. Offers a refreshing twinkle of acidity, a saline-like minerality, and a weighty mouth-feel. Pairs well with fresh vegetables, raw fish, and lighter meals.

Growing conditions

The Pinot Gris is from Kalala’s certified organic Westbank Vineyard. The morning sun exposure brought maximum ripeness to grapes while the cool summer evenings maintained the vibrant acidity. The Pinot Gris was picked in three separate batches for better balance in the wine.

Winemaking notes

Picked on October 8, 2019, at Kalala’s Westbank vineyard, Block B and C. harvested at 23.6°Bx, the grapes were near ideal. We kept the fermentation temperature at around 15°C and it has taken around 2 weeks to complete. Used gravity clarification. Finished in stainless steel.

2015 Aspire

A rich, bold blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah with aromas and flavours of plum, blueberry and cherry. Abundant tannins would suggest decanting before serving with heartier foods.Quite enjoyable now but also an excellent wine to age; 3-5 years is suggested.

Growing conditions
The Merlot came from our certified organic Chandra vineyard from 20 year old vines. The vineyard located in fariview area of Oliver has a south-eastern exposure, which is ideal to grow excellent fruit. Westerly exposure Cab. Sauv and Syrah are from Paulson Vineyard in Osoyoos, located on the East side of Osoyoos Lake. South-Western exposure makes it ideal for full body red.

Winemaking notes
The three components of the blend Merlot (60%), Cab. Sauv. (25%) and Syrah (15%), were crafted so that they could stand alone. The Merlot was processed first, then the Cab and Syrah were crushed and coldstored for 36 hours to get additional colour and phenolic extractions. The Merlot was aged in French oak and the Cab and Syrah in American oak.
