After sauvignon blanc, New Zealand is best known for its pinot noir. Almost 14 000 acres are planted to pinot noir which was first commercial bottled in 1987. It grows in many regions but is largely concentrated in Marlborough, on the south island.
Kim Crawford is a nationally recognized wine maker largely because of the very popular Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir.
